Mon Ange (My Angel)
I was one of Louis XVI’s (sez) many black dot assassins. One wouldn’t suspect a woman, so it was easier to go through the city unnoticed, even without being on the arm of a man. I wore my hair differently (in a tight bun) and wore black street clothes. When I wore my hair in the popular noodle island curls with my signature white long teardrop earrings and my off-the-shoulder red ball gown, I became La Duchesse de DuBarry. While everyone else wore wigs, I slept in braids every night to achieve the curls they thought I naturally had. Oh, the blush was real. In those days a Vitamin D deficiency was favorable.

A Widow's Freedom
I was miserable, being a useless, petted daughter with no voice. What was worse was that I didn't know it. I soon got a taste for freedom, though. I started noticing that my maids could choose their husbands for love more than I could. I started noticing how segregated we were from the men when they'd go on their own to play Poker. I started noticing how much I was treated like a pretty thing who was there as an ornament.

Mon Tresor (My Treasure)
I will say that not all poor have my integrity. There are plenty of groups of poor children, mostly boys, that will gladly pick your pocket. There's also prostitutes; not courtesans, you understand; that will steal more bills from a man's wallet when he's asleep. They call it necessity while I call it a bad decision.

Mon Tresor (My Treasure)
Oh, it's funny. The first time I encounter men who have business dealings with me, they don't expect a woman. The first time I met with my coachman, he asked for a Mr. Laviolettem assuming that the letter he received from me must have been misspelled. I came out of my study/library.

Mon Tresor (My Treasure)
Claudine was always the one who got the attention. She had deep green eyes and red hair that was between ginger and deep red. She looked Irish and royal all at once especially because of her skin that had a lunar luminescence to it. That was why George, then William, noticed her.

Dull to Sparkling
You'd think living through the French Revolution and holding the hand of one of those who got to spit on Louis XVI's severed head would be glorious. You'd think that living through Napoleon's brief glory, then the return of the monarchy, then his briefer glory, then the final return of the monarchy would be just fantstic, but not for the daughter of a lady's maid and a poor philosopher. For those of us on the outer edges of society who had to earn our livings, it wasn't fabulous at all.
